Later that evening, Doug calls to let me know he’s spoken to Aaron’s attorneys, and Aaron would really like to talk to me.

“I got a number you can reach him at but told his attorneys you’ve been through a lot these last few days, and you might need some time before you reach out, if you ever reach out.”

I’m happy that Aaron actually wants to speak to me and all evening I stare at the number I jotted down. I long to hear Aaron’s voice but I don’t have anything left in me to call tonight.

I can hardly sleep as I ponder everything I need to do tomorrow to get my life back. Every obstacle I’ve managed to overcome so far is immediately followed by another, and I wonder if I’m condemned to eternal punishment like Sisyphus, though in my case I’m being punished for something I didn’t do. Just like I did in captivity, I fantasize about seeing Aaron again, holding him, kissing him. I want it more than anything, but in a way, I fear it too. What if he rejects me? I’m damaged goods. But I know I will never be complete without him. I have to believe this will somehow strengthen our relationship rather than tear us apart.
